Publish an App in App Manager

The App Manager management utility allows an administrator to install a packaged Digitise app to an App Server. Publishing a Package file in this way makes the app available to users in the same way as using the Publish to Server option in App Studio. The Publish to Server option allows you to publish the app directly from within App Studio, but if, for example, you do not have access to the App Server machine from your development machine you can create a Package file and copy it to the App Server machine and then install it using App Manager.

To install a Package file to an App Server within App Manager:

Run App Manager and click on the Connect button to connect to the App Server Configuration Database specified in the App Manager Options. This should be the App Server Configuration Database to which you want to publish your app.

Choose Application from the category buttons on the lower, left-hand side of the App Manager Window.

Choose Applications from the top of the tree control in the left-hand pane of the App Manager window.

Choose the Properties tab at the bottom of the right-hand pane.

Click the Install button.

Browse for and select the required Digitise Apps Package file (a .mxp file).

The Inherit Security Settings From Previous Version option at the bottom of the dialog box determines whether you want to retain any previously configured access rights for this app.

If you are publishing an update to an existing app and the previous version has an Access Control List configured in the App Manager utility which restricts access to this app and you want to retain the same access controls, select this option. Otherwise when you publish your app, the current access rights will be cleared and the default access rights will be restored for your new version of the app (User and Device Access both set to Allow).

Enter the password, if required.

Click on the Install button.

  • You can run App Manager on a separate PC from the App Server and install Package files remotely, provided that the App Manager is configured to connect to the SQL Server database used by the App Server.
